I think after you've read 13 steps, you've pretty much got the foundations of mentalism there and therefore can branch off into whatever area of mentalism you like the most.
There's no real step after that, it's very much here's your tools now go out into the world young padawan. I really liked Christian Painters Protoplasm, has some close-up mentalism pieces with common objects (cards, coins etc.). That's just a random suggestion though since I could say probably 100 more and it'd be as much use for you. Saying that TA Waters Mind, Myth and Magick, as someone mentioned below is very much a essential if you like mentalism.
Probably actually make sense, as it is somewhat biblical (in size and renown!). As for some random recommendations from my personal library: • As you probably already gathered Annemann is one of the best minds in this area. Anything by him is great. If you can seek out some Al Mann material too, he's got some real gold too. • Most things by Phil Goldstein/Max Maven - The guy is literally a dictionary and his materials cover pretty much everything so they'll be something, somewhere you like.
• More traditionally, I like Richard Osterlind. Have not studied him recently but was a big fan back in my mentalism days, he's got some great ideas on standard concepts and will probably be a fairly good progression from Corinda and Annemann (He actually has a DVD series of Practical Mental Effects).
• Personal Favorite of mine is Andy Nyman so most things by him. The guy behind early Derren Brown (in fact featured him in his act in his early instructional tapes, somewhere after devils picturebook and before his break on TV). • Larry Becker. • Jack Curtis - Distorted Thoughts: Great gem of a book, really off the wall thinking with some very nice plots! • Alexander Marsh's books - Some super devious work he has.
I find myself giggling to myself reading his books because some methods are just so good! • Ben Cardall - Ben-Zines: Not that polished but full of great material! Not just mentalism though. • Mick Ayres Act Series And I'll end my random recommendations now. I would like to hear some thoughts about this too. I have PME from lybrary but just skim roughly through it.
